Orluzurumee cultural union, the apex socio political organization in Orlu zone,has expressed worry over killings in Orlu local government area of Imo State.

The group said “the sad development that has recorded overwhelming fatality is under reported”

There has been tension in Orlu as security agencies comprising the Military, the Police had engaged in shootings with men of the South East Security Network. Scores were reported to have been killed.

Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma had on Monday imposed a dusk to dawn curfew in 9 local governments that make up the zone.

Speaking to newsmen in Owerri, Interim Management Committee Chairman, Orluzurumee, Prof Protus Nathan Uzorma, said there has been more killings in Orlu than in any part of Imo State in the past one month even during the Endsars protest.

The group called for peace.

“Let us in the interest of peace, and mutual co- existence, eschew sentiments, bias and negative primordial interests, come together to resolve issues, stop the killing and ensure that peace and normalcy prevail” Protus said

He said if the military is at war with any group of people, “they should use their intelligence network to track their targets instead of this mode of transferred aggression that has to endanger the lives and property of innocent and unarmed citizens who fall victims in the course of going about their lawful businesses”

Protus also called on the state government “to as a matter of urgency ensure immediate evacuation of military and paramilitary men from Orlu to douse tension and stop further harassment, intimidation and psychological trauma of the people”

In his remarks, a former Commissioner in Imo State, Chief Ejike Uche said the killings in Orlu is unacceptable, advising security agencies to rather go after its targets and put a stop to the bloodletting in the area.
