Ministerial nominees of state governors of the All Progressives Congress, APC, may dominate the expected cabinet of President Bola Tinubu.
This is as indications emerged that seven immediate past State governors are expected to make the list.
Of the seven former governors, five are expected from the APC, while two are of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, mainly from the G-5 group.
The G-5 group consists of State governors of PDP extraction who shunned the party after the emergence of former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar as presidential candidate of the PDP for the 2023 presidential election.
Sources told this newspaper that all serving governors in the APC made only one nomination contrary to media reports that they made two or more nominations. it is expected that the President may accept all their nominees.
Recall that APC State governors were instrumental to the emergence of Bola Tinubu as Presidential candidate of the party in the build up to the 2023 presidential election.
The Governors, under the auspices of Progressives Governors Forum, PGF, led then by Jigawa State Governor, Abubakar Badaru, had insisted that the party’s presidential ticket be ceded to the South despite the fact the party had presidential candidates from the North vying for the presidential ticket.
The source said “President Tinubu has not forgotten this fact. This is why he is most likely to reward the APC governors, especially those who battled the cabal in Buhari’s government to pave way for his emergence as APC Presidential candidate.
“As it is now, all APC governors, both the re elected and newly elected ones made one nomination for ministerial position and their nominess are of top priority before other considerations.
“However, there is a conscious move by the President’s think tank to accommodate other forces or interest in the party, who in one way or the other contributed to Tinubu’s victory in the presidential election.
“These category of nominees will come as technocrats. They are drawn from various strata or sector of the country.
“Party stakeholders in various states or their nominees not on the same page with APC governors may not necessarily find their way to the ministerial list as widely speculated.
“The G-5 group of the PDP is of particular interest. Aside the G- 5 group, there are those in PDP who are sympathetic to the Tinubu Presidency and they are most likely to be carried along. Asiwaju wants a broad based government. That is the only way he can shrink the opposition.
“Former Governors Nyesom Wike and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of the PDP are expected to be appointed as Ministers” the source stated.
President Tinubu is expected to unevil his ministerial nominees soon.
They will be screened by the Senate.
