Less than three months to the governorship primary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Imo State, there is ongoing cold war in the party over the guber ticket.
There are speculations that the party’s guber primary will take place in April.
Reports have been awash in the local media that a delegation disposed to the guber bid of former Governor of Imo State, Emeka Ihedioha, had visited former Vice President and PDP Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and top party leaders to adopt Ihedioha as sole candidate for the party’s guber ticket.
Though there was no independent confirmation of the story, there are strong indications that some pro Ihedioha forces are pushing for his adoption as sole guber candidate of the party.
An Ihedioha die hard, Mr. Franklin Ngoforo, had called on PDP National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, not to contest for the Imo PDP guber ticket on the basis he is the National Secretary of the party.
Anyanwu is believed to be eying the guber ticket of the party and this has set the stage for a cold war with Ihedioha.
Recently, 17 local government Chairmen of the party were suspended, on allegations that they wanted to remove the State Party Chairman, Engr. Charles Ugwu.
The 17 Chairmen were alleged to have tilted towards Anyanwu.
The suspension order was later reversed by the National leadership of the party led by National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu.
The constitution of the Atiku Campaign Council, in Imo State, had also generated fuss between Ihedioha and Anyanwu camps.
Though the matter was resolved by the Atiku Abubakar Presidential Campaign team, there is love lost in the Campaign Council in Imo State, as loyalists of Ihedioha and Anyanwu in the Council, operate separately.
While Ihedioha remains the Chairman of the Council and holds meetings pertaining to the Council in his residence, Greg Egu, the Director General of the Campaign Council and an Anyanwu loyalist, holds meetings in the PCC office at Okigwe Road, Owerri.
This underscores the depth of the feud between Ihedioha and Anyanwu. The latter has never attended any of the presidential campaigns in the State which Ihedioha leads.
