The Address Read Thus
A welcome address prepared by Chief. Dr. Sixtus Ozuomba, the Secretary General of Urualla Clan Assembly, on behalf of the President General Chief Ambrose Nwosu on the occasion of the commissioning of the Urualla Magistrates Court built by Urualla Clan, on this day 6th March, 2025.
The Honourable, the Acting Chief Judge of Imo State ably represented by His Lordship Hon. Justice S.I Okpara,
Other Judges here present,
Other officials of the Imo State Judiciary here present,
The Honourable Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice Imo State,
The Executive Chairman and officials of Ideato North Local Government,
HRM Eze Nnabugo Okosisi Ezeanyika the Paramount Ruler of Urualla Clan ably represented by the Ezes of the autonomous communities in Urualla,
Executive Officers of Urualla Clan Assembly,
The good people of Urualla Mbiagu Ebeteghete,
Members of the Press,
Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen,
It is with immense joy and gratitude that I welcome you all to this official commissioning and handing over of this building which houses two magistrates Court rooms, built and furnished by the good, peace loving and progressive minded people of Urualla Clan.
The project which started with a foundation laying by UCA Port Harcourt, to mark their hosting of Urualla New yam festival, was undertaken to replace the old worn-out structure which was not decent enough for use. The pioneering roles played by Late Chief C.E Ibeneme and Late Chief Ambrose Alagbogu in raising the initial fund is hereby appreciated. The project which was abandoned for a long time after the initial activities got the attention of the new Urualla movement ably led by Chief A.C Nwosu. With our eyes on a day like this, we cried to our people within and outside Nigeria to ensure that the project was completed. Our distinguished son Mr. Ken Dike funded the roofing, UPU-USA under the able leadership of Romanus Anamege adopted it as their own project and saw to its completion and furnishing. Permit me too to recognize CJK Chinedo for funding the painting
My Hon. Judges of Imo State judiciary, Imo State and Local government officials here present, this project is just one of several done through communal effort and handed over to the government. Our patriotic sons built the High Court and handed over to the government. The Police Station was damaged by fire, and no Government Agency was ready to attend to it, but in the same spirit of accommodation and love for law and order, we spent several millions to bring it back to shape, courtesy of the generosity of Mr. Ken Dike! The police station, Ladies and Gentlemen is waiting for official commissioning too. Schools, Health Center, electricity, water etc, were all provided by community efforts, and still being maintained by us.
Having shown a lot of commitment to providing infrastructure and enabling environment for institutions of Justice, law and order, we humbly request the Imo State Government to reciprocate by not only ensuring the adequate staffing and functioning of all the Courts in Urualla but also to put machineries in place for the actualization of Urualla Judicial Division. We use this opportunity to ask the Honorable Acting Chief Judge of Imo State to give this request which is long overdue and expeditious attention. Furthermore, having strived to build and handover this modern structure,we urge the government, especially the local government, to ensure that it remains a conducive and befitting place for the dispensation of justice through adequate and regular maintenance,
We know that “Government cannot do it alone” as is popularly said; development thrives better when there is a partnership between Government and the Communities, and infrastructures are safer when the Communities show ownership. Urualla has built and maintained structures that, ordinarily, the government should provide. It therefore follows, naturally, that whatever the government provides shall be safe and highly appreciated by my people.
It is heartbreaking that the World Bank Erosion project which our people welcomed with a lot joy and expectations was truncated along the way, but not before the contractors had channeled all the flood from neighboring communities to Urualla, leaving our communities worse than they were. Afor-iro, the only platform for major commercial activities in Urualla was demolished by the previous government and abandoned half-way. Urualla Clan needs better attention from the government at all levels to sustain her developmental drive.
On a brighter note, we want to appreciate the Executive Governor of Imo State, Dist. Senator Hope Uzodinma for his giant strides in road construction throughout the State, especially the Orlu-
Urualla-Akokwa road which has been a nightmare to all road users. Urualla Clan says, God bless
you our Governor.
My Lords, we know that without justice there will be no peace. May the good Lord use you as his instrument for justice. May the innocent never suffer the fate of the guilty.
God bless you all.
DR. SIXTUS I. OZUOMBA
Secretary General, UCA.
