Uzodimma Bags Mandela, National Peace And Humanitarian Awards

Two notable organisations,  the International Human Rights Commission and the Nigeria Peace Summit, have nominated Senator Hope Uzodimma, the governor of Imo State for awards. 

While the International Human Rights Commission nominated him for the 2026 Order of the Pride of Africa and Nelson Mandela Medal for A Long Walk to Freedom Award,    the Nigeria Peace Summit recognised him with  its National Peace and Humanitarian Award.

In their separate letters to the Imo State helmsman,  both organisations praised him for his push for advancement in human Rights, dignity, sustainable development, and the sustenance of peace in Nigeria. 

In a letter signed by Eze Fred Chidozie,Director General IHRC Situation Room, Abuja, the Rights Commission explained that the nomination was made by a top level “assessment mechanism following a comprehensive  evaluation of leadership, governance, and delivery of public infrastructure and social services “

It further disclosed that the nomination has received full endorsement by the IHRC Department of Foreign Affairs ” in recognition of the governor’s contributions to the welfare and empowerment of the people of Imo State “

It announced that in line with the standards of the Nelson Mandela Medal for A Long Walk to Freedom,  a  5 member team from the Commission will undertake an independent and impartial inspection of projects across all sectors in Imo State. 

According to the Commission ” the team will assess and rate the performance of the governor’s administration”

On its part, the Nigeria Peace Summit Group said its award to Uzodimma was in recognition of his efforts to maintain peace in Imo State, the South East and Nigeria. 

“This honour is a clear example of the impact of your administration in the formation of the Imo State vigilante guard”, the group submitted in the letter signed by Bishop Timothy Cheren,Convener and Rev Dr Ebomuche Emmanuel, South East Cordinator.
