Uzodimma Vs Okorocha: Who Acted Wrongly Or Rightly Over Sealing Of Royal Palm Estate- Analysts Give Verdict

by admin

A cross section of analysts on Monday gave varying interpretations of the melee that ensued between former Governor of Imo State and Senator representing Imo West at the Senate, Senator Rochas Okorocha and officials of the Imo State government.

Okorocha was arrested by the Police on Sunday after he unsealed the Royal Palm Estate, Owerri, after the State Commissioner of Lands, Enyinnaya Onuegbu, had acted on a white paper of a Judicial Panel of Inquiry, to seal the property.

Reports say Okorocha was attacked by thugs led by aides of Governor Hope Uzodimma.

The former Governor was released by the Police, while some of his aides who accompanied the former Governor to unseal the property were arraigned in court.

Mr Chuks Okere, an Owerri based public policy analyst said “Governor Okorocha acted wrongly by resorting to self help by unsealing the property.

“A Government White paper has the force of the law and the State government was right if it used the white paper as a basis to seal up the property.

Mr. Ned Ukachukwu, another public policy analyst said it is wrong on the part of Governor Uzodimma to use force to stop Okorocha from unsealing the property.

“The Governor should not have sent his aides with thugs to attack the former Governor. Okorocha no matter his sins, remains a former Governor of the State, and a Senator and deserve some respect

“The use of thugs is an aberration and uncalled for. This is so worrisome.

Dr. Ernest Anakudo, an Owerri based medical practitioner said “Okorocha is the cause of the crisis. How can he unseal what a constituted authority had sealed? It is unacceptable.

Mr. Ernest Anukam, a trader said  “both the Governor and Okorocha are lawless people. Governance is on a low ebb in Imo. Okorocha introduced the use of thugs. We recall how he demolished Eke Ukwu Market, Owerri and how he used thugs to achieve his purpose. I was a victim of that act. His successor, Uzodimma is only taking a cue from what he did.

Chief Gregory Ibezim stated “The State is gradually turning into a theater of the absurd. We crave for good governance and all we get is, a sitting Governor and former Governor washing their dirty linens in public.
