The Association of Imo State Indigenous Town Unions, ASIETU, have elected a new President.
He is Mr. Samson Ogbso from Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State.
According to Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Mr. Chief Chris Chikwe, Ogbos polled 14 votes to defeat his main challenger, Mr. Monday Ikokwu who got 11 votes.
Ogbos takes over from Chief Emeka Diwe, President, South East Association of Indigenous Town Unions.
In his acceptance speech, Ogbos, the newly elected President, promised to re-position and redefine the Association for the benefit of the grassroots in the State.
Earlier, outgoing Chairman of ASETU, Chief Emeka Diwe,commended the participants, the delegates, the security personnel and the media for ensuring a peaceful and orderly election.
He said a date for the swearing in and inauguration of the new President will be announced later.
Mr. Monday Ikokwu who vied and lost the presidential election opposed the outcome of the polls, claiming that some provisions of the Association’s Constitution were not adhered to prior to the election.
