Majority of Imo elites still live in fear over insecurity in the state, just as the State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, Saturday, assured that his administration will leave no stone unturned in tackling insecurity in the State
The Governor in a broadcast on Saturday blamed disgruntled politicians for perpetrating violence in the state.
He said “You would have noticed that disgruntled Politicians in concert with militants and other criminal elements have unleashed violence in our State known traditionally for its peace and hospitality. Unable to contain themselves over the development strides of our administration in just one year, these enemies of our State have devise ways of not only distracting us but striking fear in our citizens. Some of them have even come out to unmask their real intentions which are to make the State ungovernable.
He said investigations to expose those behind the security breaches have reached an advanced stage and soon they will be exposed.
“Let me assure the good people of Imo State that investigations to unmask the sponsors of these security breaches in the State have reached an advanced stage. Very soon the long arms of the law will expose and prosecute them
The Governor’s assurance came on the heels of attacks in the state including the attempt to burn his House in his village in Omuma in Oru East Local Government Area of the State.
However, it was observed that most elites, mainly top politicians and businessmen in the state are “lying low” for fear of the unknown. Those living outside the State who had intended to return for the weekend and public holiday stayed away.
Recall that the Imo State government officials, including lawmakers, had dropped their official vehicles and resorted to use their private vehicles shortly after the State Commissioner of Entreprenuer was shot last week.
However, with the return of Governor Uzodimma to the state, last Friday and his assurance to tackle insecurity, it is expected that this will boost the confidence of his aides and the elites
Mr Chibudom Emeyonu, a public policy analyst said “The return of the Governor to the state after spending six days in Abuja and his assurances to fight insecurity will go a long way to boost the confidence of our people to go about their normal businesses. Most of our elites are staying away from the state for now, but i believe with these measures in place now, it will go a long way to restore peace in our state
