The much anticipated local government election in Imo State, may not take place so soon, as feelers has emerged that the Imo State Independent Electoral Commission, ISIEC, has suspended indefinitely plans to hold the polls.
The Commission which had embarked on a tour of the 27 local government as part of its sensitization on the election have suspended the visits indefinitely. The tour was intended to serve as a prelude to hold the polls at an unscheduled date
A reliable source told this newspaper that the tour was put off because of the rising insecurity in the state
The source said “ the commission’s officials had concluded visiting about 17 of the 27 LGAs before the wave of attacks in the state.Until the security situation improves, the tour cannot re commence.
Governor Hope Uzodimma had assured of his administration’s commitment to conduct local government elections this year.
