*Defectors Cannot Change The Misfortune Of The Ruling Party, Says Anyanwu’s Ally, Ndukwu*
Barely three months to the governorship election in Imo State, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP is battling with the defection of it’s major stakeholders and chieftains to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
This newspaper was reliably informed that between now and September, more notable chieftains of the party will decamp to the APC.
The defection of PDP chieftains to the APC, is said to be line with relentless poaching of its key stakeholders by agents of Governor Hope Uzodimma.
A source who spoke to this newspaper on condition of anonymity, said plans have been concluded to receive about three political heavyweights in the party and their political followers to the APC, especially those who are not on the same page with Senator Samuel Anyanwu, the governorship candidate of the party.
“More PDP chieftains are crossing over to the ruling party in weeks to come. They are political heavyweights who have electoral value. By the time they come over, there would be nobody of political substance left in the opposition party” the source said.
Recently, seven State Working Committee, SWC members of the PDP in the State had joined the APC.
The members are Martin Ejiogu, deputy state chairperson; Collins Opuruozor, publicity secretary; Ray Emeana, secretary; Greg Nwadike, youth leader; Maria Mbakwe, women leader; Josiah Eze, treasurer; and Chibuisi Obido, vice chairperson of Orlu zone.
Also, a major stakeholder in the party and former National Woman leader of the PDP, Dr (Mrs) Kema Chikwe, had endorsed Governor Hope Uzodimma for a second term in office.
However, an ally of the PDP govenorship candidate, Mr. Sunny Ndukwu, in his reactions to the defections, that the APC would be defeated in the forthcoming governorship election, despite the defections of some State Working Committee members, including its former Secretary, Ray Emeana.
Ndukwu had said the aggrieved members movement to APC underscores their naivety “for them to think they can bring any special fortune that is unknown and alien to our State”
