- The next President of Ohaneze is expected to emerge from Imo State

Former Secretary General of Ohaneze Ndi Igbo, Joe Nworgu, has joined the race for the presidency of Ohaneze Ndi Igbo.
His declaration for the plum job was witnessed by who is who in his Ngor Okpala Local Government area of Imo State.
It was a gathering of who-is-who in Ngor Okpala on Thursday 8th October 2020 as the former Secretary General of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Dr Joe Nwaorgu declared his interest to vie for the position of the President General of Ohaneze Ndigbo.
The event which took place at the country home of Dr Joe Nwaorgu in Umuota Umuhu Ngor Okpala LGA Imo State, organized by Olu Oha Ngor Okpala, the apex socio-cultural organization of Ngor Okpala was an assemblage of critical leaders of thought across party line, both the clergy, traditional Rulers, political leaders, the business class, the academia and all the Town Union President Generals in Ngor Okpala. It was a day of tributary for Dr Joe Nwaorgu.
Speaking at the event, the President of Olu Oha Ngor Okpala, Sir Eustace Eke in his welcome address, pointed out that the event was organized to galvanize support for Dr Joe Nwaorgu as he joins the race for Ohaneze Ndigbo Presidency. He described Dr Joe Nwaorgu as an indispensable force in the leadership of Ohaneze Ndigbo and someone who has been instrumental to the milestones recorded by Ohaneze Ndigbo “He has sacrificed and served diligently and selflessly in Ohaneze Ndigbo.
As the former Deputy Secretary General and later the Secretary General, he used his position to defend and championed Igbo interest. His name is synonymous with Ohaneze Ndigbo, he is the most qualified and the only person that can restore the supreme status of the apex Igbo sociocultural organization”.
In his own comment, a highly respected nonagenarian, co-founder of Ohaneze Ndigbo and a pan-Igbo elder statesman, Sir Onyenso Nwachukwu described Dr Joe Nwaorgu as a core Igbo breed who has remained a real Igbo man through out his time. “Joe Nwaorgu is the only man among all the aspirants that has the capability to reposition Ohaneze Ndigbo and the Igbos in general. He has been tested and found worthy having served in different capacities in Ohaneze Ndigbo. The Igbos should give him all the necessary support”.
Reacting also, the Anglican Bishop of Egbu Diocese of Imo State, His Lordship Rt. Rev Geoffrey Enyinnaya Okorafor described Dr Joe Nwaorgu as a man of integrity who has sacrificed his time for the Igbo race, he prayed God to protect and guide him and give him the divine wisdom to lead the entire Igbo race.
In his response, Dr Joe Nwaorgu expressed his profound gratitude to Ngor Okpala leaders for their rare support and solidarity assuring that he will uphold the confidence reposed in him.
The former Commissioner for Works, Housing and Transport in Imo State further stated that with his requisite experience, track record of excellent service delivery and exceptional performance in the leadership of Ohaneze Ndigbo he cannot afford to disappoint Ndigbo.
He maintained that what Ndigbo need now is a Present General who has the spirit of Igboness and someone with the burning desire to defend the core Igbo interest and position. He promised to serve Ndigbo and restore the supreme status of Igbo nation in the Nigerian socio-political context.
Highlight of the occasion was the reading of Dr Joe Nwaorgu’s prodigious profile by the Secretary of Olu Oha Ngor Okpala, Prince MacDonald Enwere and unanimous prayer for Dr Joe Nwaorgu by Nde Ngor Okpala and Royal blessings by Ndi Eze Ngor Okpala.
Dr Joe Nwaorgu a PhD holder from Cambridge University London, an Estate management guru and former Director of Estate and Quartering Federal Capital Development Authority Abuja has served in different capacities in Ohaneze Ndigbo which include; Deputy Secretary General, Secretary General, Secretary Ohaneze Ndigbo planning and Strategy Committee, Chairman National organizing Committee World Igbo Day in 2003, 2005, 2011,2012, 2013 and 2016. He was also a member of the 2005 and 2014 National Constitutional conference and a statutory member of IMEOBI Ohaneze Ndigbo.
